The Mariners needed to disable James Paxton with a forearm strain:
Seattle general manager Jerry Dipoto told reporters that the injury is a Grade 1 strain and that the team is hopeful he will miss just two starts.
“There is no sign of anything else,” Dipoto said, according to The News Tribune . “The ligament is fine. There is no tear. But we are going to be as cautious here as we have to be.”
Paxton is off to an amazing start with 45 strikeouts and no home runs allowed in 37 2/3 innings, leading to a 1.43 record. Incredibly, the Mariners are just 3-3 in his starts, losing games in which he allowed 0 and 2 runs.
