Thomas Passes

The Oakland Athletics lost a minor league player:

The A’s announced Tuesday that 2016 draft choice Casey Thomas, 24, died suddenly in Phoenix.

Thomas, a 34th-round draft pick, was the son of Oakland scout Tom Thomas.

“We were devastated to hear of this tragedy within the A’s family,” A’s vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane said. “Our hearts go out to Tom and his family on their loss; Casey was a wonderful young man and teammate, and will be missed by all in the A’s organization.”

My thoughts go out to his family, friends, and teammates.

Thomas did a great job getting on base in college, but as an older rookie league player, he was not hitting well. We won’t get a chance to see what he could do.
