The Phillies visit Washington two games out of first place in the NL East and two games ahead of the hot Nationals. Nick Pivetta takes on Gio Gonzalez. Pivetta looks like he should be doing better than a 3.27 ERA, with great K/BB/HR numbers. He allowed just seven walks and two home runs in 33 innings, but gives up a .304 BA with runners in scoring position. Gonzalez allowed 21 homers last season, but just one so far in 33 2/3 innings.
In a battle of undefeated pitchers, Rick Porcello leads the Red Sox against the Rangers and the ageless Bartolo Colon. Porcello was hammered by home runs in 2017, allowing 38. In 40 1/3 innings this season, opponents took him deep once. Colon has started stretching out his innings, going at least seven in two of his last three starts. As usual, his control is great with just three walks in 31 1/3 innings.
Finally, two youngsters meet in San Diego as Walker Buehler and the Dodgers battle Joey Lucchesi. Buehler is off to a good start in his first full season in the majors, with just two runs allowing in his first 10 innings. He has lived up to his name, however, with 12 walks in his 19 1/3 innings major league career. Lucchesi, a lefty, is beating up on right-handed hitters. So far they are hitting just .216/.278/.375 against him.
