Games of the Day

Jarlin Garcia leads the Marlins into Chicago to take on the Cubs and Kyle Hendricks. Garcia allowed just 15 hits in 33 innings, despite a low strikeout rate, and a slightly high walk rate. His overall BA allowed of .136 drops to .048 with runners in scoring position. Opposition batters are just 1 for 21 with one RBI in that situation. Hendricks walked just nine batters in 36 2/3 innings, but allowed eight home runs. His opponents are two for 21 with runners in scoring position, but the homers give him an ERA about three times higher than Garcia.

The Astros open a three game series in Oakland against the contending Athletics. An Oakland series sweep would move them ahead of second place Houston in the AL West. Dallas Keuchel and Brett Anderson get the series underway. Keuchel comes into the game with a 3.98 ERA and a 1-5 record. He lost five games in total during the 2017 season. He allowed eight home runs so far, after giving up 15 in 2017 in three times the innings. Anderson makes his second start of the year after a successful first outing. He walked just one batter and allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Finally, Stephen Strasburg takes on Tyson Ross as the Nationals visit the Padres. Strasburg’s 3.47 ERA allowed is due mostly to the eight home runs given up. With a low walk rate, seven of those were solo shots. Ross is striking out more than a batter an innings, like he did at his peak in 2014-2015. That’s good news for the Padres.

Enjoy!
