Games of the Day

The Red Sox travel to New York to take on the Yankees, Boston leading the home team by one game in the AL East. Drew Pomeranz takes on Luis Severino. Pomeranz’s high strikeout rate has not led to a low hit rate. In 14 2/3 innings, he struck out 14 but allowed 19 hits for a .328 BA against. Severino brings a 2.11 ERA into the game as he goes for his sixth win. He allowed 28 hits and 12 walks in 47 innings, striking out 52.

A battle of former AL East opponents takes place in Milwaukee as Corey Kluber leads the Indians against Wade Miley. I believe the Brewers hold the record by playing in four divisions, all three in the AL and the NL Central. Kluber allowed eight home runs in 52 1/3 innings. Given how few hits and walks he allowed, I would expect the great majority of them to be solo shots, but three have come with men on base. Miley pitched decently in his first start, giving up just one run in six innings, although he did walk three batters.

Finally, Lance McCullers and Sean Manaea square off as Houston visits Oakland. McCullers appears to have good and bad luck canceling out on the road. He owns a 3-0 record away, but with a 4.91 ERA. His three-true outcomes on the road are good, however, so his road ERA appears too high. He pitched a gem against Houston earlier this season, seven shutout innings with two hits and no walks allowed. Manaea has a no-hitter under his belt, and his .152 BA allowed in the third lowest in the majors.

Enjoy!
