Infinite Zeros

Fernando Romero made his second MLB start Monday night, and the Twins pitcher once again did not allow a run. He’s now pitched 11 2/3 innings, struck out 14, and allowed just seven hits. His only weakness so far is the six walks he allowed, but he also erased two runners by inducing double plays, and one was caught stealing.

In his minor league career, he did not strike out as many per 9 innings, and his walk rate was much lower. That means there is hope the walk rate will get even better, and while I don’t expect the trend of infinite shutout innings to continue, he be throwing a lot of scoreless frames as his career continues. In 324 1/3 minor league innings, he allowed just 278 hits.

The Twins beat the Cardinals 6-0, one of for blow-out games Monday night.
