It’s been a day of rest for many hitters this Sunday. Domingo German, making his first MLB start, pitched six no-hit, shutout innings for the Yankees. Mike Clevinger matched him most of the way, not giving up a hit until the fifth inning and runs until the eighth. The Yankees wound up winning 7-4 on a walk-off home run by Gleyber Torres, which led to a Gleyber Day Celebration.
James Shields took a not-hitter into the seventh, but the Twins came back to beat the White Sox 5-3.
Jake Arrieta and Max Scherzer combined to allow two runs in 12 1/3 innings, Scherzer striking out 15 batters. The Nationals had a cartoon finish to the game.
Chad Kuhl allowed one hit in seven innings for the Pirates against the Brewers as Pittsburgh wins 9-0. Kuhl gave up the hit in the second, walked two and struck out 8.
Marco Estrada and Chris Archer combined to allow one run and nine hits in 13 innings as Toronto beat Tampa Bay 2-1.
Kyle Freeland and Noah Syndergaard allowed two runs each as the Rockies extend the Mets losing streak with a 3-2 win.
Chris Sale allowed one run in seven innings as the Red Sox beat the Rangers 6-1.
The lowest ERA for a set of starting pitchers in a 15 game day was 2.09 on 4/16/2014. We’ll see where this day winds up, but it may not beat that.
