Weekly Look at Offense

Six weeks into the 2018 season, offense is down slightly compared to the same point in 2017 (all comparisons are through six weeks). The 2018 season generates 8.88 runs per games compared to 8.95 in 2017. There are more men on base per game, 24.4 this season versus 23.3 last season, but there are fewer home runs per games, 2.2 this season versus 2.3 last year. Walks have evened out, just slightly higher this season, but strikeouts remain way up per games, 17.5 this season versus 16.4 last year. More Ks mean fewer balls in play, and even outs on balls in play move runners. The weather is finally nice, and runs scored dropped. The spreadsheet with the weekly scoring graph is here.
