Record Pace

The Mets played six games so far in June and scored a total of seven runs. That’s 1.17 Runs per game. The lowest monthly runs per game in the expansion era (min 20 games) belongs to the 1963 Houston Astros. They scored 45 runs in 29 games in June of 1963, 1.55 runs per game. Next on the list would be the 2004 Montreal Expos (the team with no owner). They scored 45 runs in 24 April games, 1.88 runs per game.

The Mets are scheduled to play 20 more games in June. If they are held to 33 runs during those 20 games, they will beat the Astros record.

How bad is the offense in June? Their line for the month is .139/.227/.209. The team is hitting like a decent batting pitcher. The struck out 55 times in 225 PA, nearly 25% of the time. The are 1 for 25 with men in scoring position.

I doubt they will set a record, since 225 PA is a pretty small sample size. I don’t doubt that the going with the veterans approached backfired worse than the Mets imagined.
