Weekly Look at Offense

After two down weeks, offense rebounded in week nine as MLB games produced 8.81 runs per game. Overall, MLB games produced 8.77 runs per game compared to 9.14 runs per game through the first nine full weeks of 2017. By coincidence, the exact same number of runs were scored in both seasons, 7706, but there were 36 fewer games played at this point in 2017 due to the expanded season in 2018. Home runs, and all hits remain down, while walks are even. So there are 24.1 batters reaching base his season per game compared to 24.5 through nine weeks of 2017. Strikeouts remain up, 17.1 per game versus 16.5 per game last season. They have moderated from earlier in the year, however.
